Originally by: Sgt Blade I take it no one here has spent a long time in China before?
I had a Chinese girlfriend for a few years, but didn't visit China.
Why? Have you, and if so, what was your perception?
I am Chinese but was born in the UK, live here all my life but I have gone back many times and tbh Mainland China isn't as bad as what some people say it is

China Blacklists Western Songs
Quote:
Hits by Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Take That are among 100 songs that have been placed on an internet blacklist by China's culture ministry.
Music websites have been given until 15 September to remove the offending tracks, which officials say harm "national cultural security".
The list also includes the Backstreet Boys track I Want It That Way, which was released more than a decade ago.
lol? I recently was on holiday in Mainland China and I'm pretty sure China MTV played many western songs that I would expect them to play. They even have a vast collection of old and modern western music for you to sing in the many Karaoke clubs.
Originally by: gfldex Mainland chinese law does not permit you to play more then 4h (IIRC) per day. That would put them into a rather bad spot in EVE. There are a few other regulation, like you have to run the servers in china and have a local company make (most) of the profit.
The chinese government is indeed quite odd but most of their laws make quite a lot of sense. They actually refuse to make the same mistakes then other developing countries (like the US) did.
Not sure 100% if this is actual law or not but even if it is nothing is being done about it if you go over your limit. I know of friends and family who game and they sometimes do more then 4 hours a day if they are off from work/school. The only limits I have seen on gaming is at arcades which are still popular over there, but the only rule is that 16 and under are not allowed into arcades during school hours which tbh is sensible
I am not completely defending the Chinese government because there are many things that are wrong that they can improve/fix etc but it seems that a lot of people seem to make Chine look a lot worse then it actually is.
